TRACE & NARRATIVE

A mass of iron and nickel that struck Scandinavian ground roughly one million years ago. Discovered in 1906 near the village of Muonionalusta in northern Sweden.

Etch the cross-section with acid, and a geometric pattern called the Widmanstätten structure appears—a crystal arrangement formed over millions of years in space, cooling at roughly one degree at a time. No cooling rate on Earth can reproduce it. To make this pattern requires the timescale of the cosmos.

Material formed alongside the solar system, now held in the hand.

VISUAL METRICS
Acid-etched geometric patterning, unique to each piece. Not ornament — the material itself becomes the identifying mark. Every cut is a one-off.
MAINTENANCE
  • Iron-nickel alloy — will oxidise if exposed to moisture.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROJECTION

Origin — Magnitude — Permanence

Extra-terrestrial iron. Fell roughly a million years ago. Survived four ice ages. Wearing it recalibrates the sense of scale — personal concerns register a fraction smaller against that kind of timeline.

SELECTOR'S NOTE

A private worry shrinks slightly when the timescale changes. Strap a piece of iron to your wrist that fell from the sky a million years ago, and that shift arrives without invitation — at odd moments, briefly. Not comfort. Recalibration.
