TRACE & NARRATIVE
When spheres of hydrated silica align in a regular array, they diffract light and produce spectral colour. The effect is called ""play of colour."" It requires spheres close in diameter to the wavelength of visible light.
Australia accounts for roughly 95 per cent of global production. Coober Pedy, known as the opal capital of the world, is so arid that the town was built underground to escape the surface heat.
Because it contains water, it can crack in dry conditions. Water trapped inside stone. A mineral, but not entirely solid.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
- Contains water in its structure — vulnerable to heat, excessive dryness, and direct sun.
- Do not wear into saunas, hot springs, or other high-heat environments.
- Avoid storing in very dry conditions.
- No ultrasonic cleaners.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROJECTION
Sensitivity — Perception — Openness
Expands the receptive range. Internal light shifts with the viewing angle; the wearer's responses shift in kind. This isn't a stone for those chasing stability. It's for those who want the senses running at full aperture.
SELECTOR'S NOTE
Wrong stone for a man seeking stability. Right stone for a man who wants his perception sharpened and his range widened — and who considers being unsettled a productive state rather than a problem. The relationship with this stone is determined entirely by that disposition. If disruption feels like damage, leave it. If disruption feels like information, it's yours.
