Concept

Peeling Gold Leaf

TRACE & NARRATIVE

Obsidian containing aligned micro-bubbles or mineral particles. At certain angles, a golden sheen surfaces—caused by minute inclusions reflecting light.

Formed, like all obsidian, by the rapid cooling of lava. But this lustre appears only when cooling rate and gas content meet specific conditions. Not every obsidian carries this gold.

Found in volcanic regions of Mexico and Brazil. In the Aztec era, obsidian served as blade, currency, and mirror. Whether you find gold inside the black depends on the angle of light.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROJECTION

Purification — Intention — Direction

Holds desire up to the light and checks its purity. The gap between what you genuinely want and what you pursue out of habit becomes legible. A useful discomfort.

SELECTOR'S NOTE

There comes a point where momentum and genuine desire look the same from the outside. He's been chasing something for so long he can't tell whether he still wants it or is simply continuing. This stone is for the person capable of doing that audit on his own. When you can verify the purity of what you're after, it becomes usable. Without that clarity, it's just a stone.
