Smoky Quartz - A Stone of Great Protection

Smoky Quartz - A Stone of Great Protection

Smoky quartz represents as a brownish grey, translucent variety of quartz that ranges in clarity from almost complete transparency to an almost-opaque brownish-gray or black crystal. Like other quartz gems, it is a silicon dioxide crystal. The smoky colour results from free silicon formed from the silicon dioxide by natural irradiation.

It is often found in large crystals of excellent transparency with few inclusions. The color of smoky quartz is produced when natural radiation, emitted from the surrounding rock, activates color centers around aluminum impurities within the crystalline quartz.

Smoky Quartz

Quartz occurs in many igneous and metamorphic rocks, particularly in granite and gneiss. It also often occurs in granitic rocks that have small amounts of radioactivity. Quartz can be found in Australia, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Bavaria, India, Spain, Scotland, Switzerland, Madagascar, Russia, and the US. It is the national gemstone of Scotland, and the ancient Celts used it to adorn both ceremonial jewelry and weapons.

It is one of the most efficient grounding and anchoring stones in the crystal kingdom. It’s a great stone for grounding higher energies, making it an excellent helper for those working with dream healing, astral travel, and shamanic journeying. Smoky quartz offers great protection against negative energies that can interfere with healing work or spiritual growth. This crystal is wonderful for meditation and spiritual endeavors, but also very helpful for stress, anxiety, panic attacks, and dealing with negative energy in everyday life. By continuing to promote positive thoughts and dissolving our fear of failure we begin to transform those thoughts into action. Ultimately, this transformation leads us towards living our dreams and passions and the life we deserve.

Smoky quartz is common and was not historically important, but in recent times it has become a popular gemstone, especially for jewellery.
